解説
当該削除部分の始点を終点の両方が示されなければならない．始点は要素 delSpanによって，終点は属性spanToにより示され る．
当該削除されているテキストは，少なくとも転記するに充分なほどには読 めるものでなければならない．全く読めないのであれば，要素 delSpanは使うべきではない．この場合には，要素gap を使い，転記できない単一のテキスト部分を示すべきである．この際，属 性reasonにより転記ができない理由が削除であることを示す ことができる．全てが読めるわけではないという場合には，要素 unclearを使い，確信が持てないが読めるひとつのテキスト部分 を示すべきである．詳しくは，11.3.7 Text Omitted from or Supplied in the Transcriptionを参照のこと． また，要素delSpanと要素gap, damage, unclear, suppliedとの関係については， 11.5.2 Use of the gap, del, damage, unclear, and supplied Elements in Combinationを参照のこと．
要素delSpanは，編集者や符号化する人による削除部分に使用さ れるべきではない．この場合は，要素corrまたは要素 gapが使われるべきである．
